In an interview with The Movie Dweeb, Payton admitted that they are done recording audio for Invincible season 2, and have even started recording for season 3, but as of now, there’s no return date. “We finished season 2, we’re on to season 3. But, it’s so hard to say right now,” Payton said. Payton later admitted that the hold-up has been because animation studios have been backed up. “There was a glut of animation studios just trying to get so much done, and literally, it was like projects sitting there with a backpack full of, you know, material being like, ‘Any time you’re ready.’” Payton made it clear that while he’s glad that the next two seasons are in production, he wishes he knew when it would be ready to go. “I honestly can’t tell you. I am so glad that they greenlint (seasons) 2 and 3 at the same time because that means that when 3 comes out, it’ll feel like just next season, and not a timeline. But it’s going to take a while. I wish I could say otherwise.”

If anything, fans should be excited that those behind the show are working tirelessly to make sure they keep up the show’s quality from what was an all-around excellent first season. The appeal of Invincible was that for years, superhero fans found the genre appealing because they wanted to be superheroes themselves. The show made it a point that playing that role really isn’t as fun as it sounds, especially if one is new to the scene. Usually, superheroes win, but in Mark Grayson’s case, he not only lost the battles he’d fight, but he’d almost die too. But that never deterred him from trying again, and that’s what makes him a hero.

Even better, the show demonstrated in season 1’s finale that the stakes would go even higher as the story continues, which means it will probably only get worse for Invincible. While Omni Man went MIA, there will be many plotlines to explore, like the inevitable Viltrumite conundrum, as well as the return of other foes who may be back for another go-round. Because Invincible does not follow the same beats as your traditional superhero show, fans can expect that the series will continue to take avenues that viewers have not previously seen.
